About 15 years ago, CityROCK opened its doors in Observatory. It was a huge thing for climbers – it was the rst ‘real’ climbing gym in Cape Town, one with proper lead walls, bouldering areas, a shop, and a yoga studio, amongst other things. Over the years, climbers used this facility to climb, train and have fun. Many kids and adults were introduced to the delights of climbing via the walls of CityROCK, and many a compe on was held within its walls.
Some three years ago, CityROCK opened a new and huge gym in Randburg, Jo’burg. It was massive – many mes the size of the now small and red looking original Observatory gym. The Jo’burg climbers were of course thrilled to have such a modern and world-class facility to train and climb in.
Then about a year or more ago rumours were going around that CityROCK was on the lookout for premises to build a new gym in Cape Town – it was an exci ng me, as
months progressed and rumours became fact, and then fact became reality when on 13 January 2018, CityROCK opened its doors to their brand new climbing and tness centre in Paarden Eiland.
Way bigger than even the Jo’burg gym, CityROCK Cape Town is the largest climbing gym in the southern hemisphere and is comparable to any of the big European or American gyms. It really is a sight to behold and a facility that will o er the best in every aspect. Check the stats opposite!
